It can’t be stressed often enough how important language is. In general and in particular. If you are concerned about food, for instance, knowing at least how to read Korean makes you more independent from electronic, internet-based devices (e.g. unreliable translation apps, asking friends or random people on Facebook for help). At the same time, you can discover more, if you have access to the local information! You can only benefit from new language skills! Korea’s writing system is called Hangeul 한글 and its alphabet is rather small! What excuse have you got for not studying a little bit of Korean??? 😉 For anyone who’s interested, there’s a free and easy Hangeul reading class here!

The food vocabulary lists which you can find there seem to be rather popular. At present, these word lists provide the Korean name, English translation as well as its pronunciation following the modern rules of Korean Romanization for each item. On top of that, I am currently working hard on updating these vocabulary lists by adding photos. 📸 [Taking photos of all ingredients existing in Korean cuisine is a HUGE project, so please bear with me if not every ingredient is illustrated yet.] Hopefully this makes it easier for visual learners [me included] as well as fellow food enthusiasts to understand and memorize the Korean words.
Let’s learn Korean! Start with the essentials and practice by applying your skills.
